Spouting & Gutters

Marley Spouting and GuttersKeep Water Away From Your Home

Your spouting and gutters do an important job. They catch water running off your roof and direct it away from your house. When they fail, water ends up where it shouldn’t be. That means rotten weatherboards, damp under your house, and damaged foundations.

We install new spouting and gutters, fix leaks, and replace sections that are past it.

What We Do

  • New Spouting Installation – Installing spouting on new builds or complete replacements. We use Marley and COLORSTEEL® spouting in colours to match your roof.
  • Gutter Replacement – Old, corroded or damaged gutters get replaced with new ones properly sized for your roof.
  • Downpipe Installation – Downpipes carry water from your gutters to ground level. We install them in the right spots with proper drainage.
  • Leak Repairs – Leaking joints or corroded sections let water escape. We repair or replace problem areas.
  • Bracket and Hanger Repairs – Broken brackets cause gutters to sag and overflow. We replace failed brackets and re-secure loose sections.
  • Overflow Prevention – Gutters that overflow during heavy rain need fixing. Might be blocked, undersized, or poorly positioned.

Common Spouting and Gutter Problems

Here’s what typically goes wrong:

  • Blocked gutters – Leaves, moss and debris fill up gutters. Water overflows and damages your house.
  • Sagging gutters – Failed brackets or too much weight from debris causes gutters to sag. Water pools instead of flowing.
  • Leaking joints – Joints between gutter sections corrode or come apart over time.
  • Rust and corrosion – Old galvanized spouting rusts out eventually. Coastal areas get it worse.
  • Undersized gutters – Some older houses have gutters too small for the roof area. They overflow in heavy rain.
  • Poor fall – Gutters need a slight slope so water flows to the downpipes. If they’re too flat, water sits there.
  • Damaged or missing downpipes – Without enough downpipes, or if they’re broken, water can’t get away properly.

Signs Your Spouting Needs Attention

Watch for these:

  • Water overflowing during rain. Your gutters aren’t coping.
  • Gutters sagging or pulling away from the house. Brackets have failed or there’s too much weight in there.
  • Water stains on your weatherboards below the gutters. Water’s escaping somewhere it shouldn’t.
  • Rust holes or visible corrosion. Time for replacement before it gets worse.
  • Water pooling around your foundations. Your spouting isn’t getting water far enough away.
  • Plants growing in your gutters. They’re blocked and have been for a while.
  • Gutters full of debris. Needs clearing out before winter.

Why Us?

We’ve installed and repaired thousands of metres of spouting around Whangarei. We know how to size it properly and install it so it works well. We match new spouting to your existing roof colour. Marley and COLORSTEEL® spouting come in a range of colours.

We’ll tell you if your gutters can be repaired or if they need replacing. No point patching up gutters that are rotted through. Proper installation matters. Gutters need the right fall, enough downpipes in the right positions, and secure brackets. We get those details right.

Gutter Sizing

Gutter size depends on your roof area and how much rain you get. Too small and they overflow. Standard sizes work for most houses, but steep or large roofs might need bigger gutters. We’ll work out what size you need based on your roof.

Maintenance Tips

Keep your spouting working properly:

  • Clear gutters at least twice a year. More often if you’ve got overhanging trees.
  • Check downpipes aren’t blocked. Pour water down them to make sure it’s flowing freely.
  • Look for rust spots or damage after big storms.
  • Make sure downpipes discharge well away from your foundations. Use extensions if needed.
  • Trim back overhanging branches. Less debris in your gutters.
  • Check brackets and hangers are secure. Tighten or replace any that are loose.
